Circle Sweets - a bonus NSD 2013 Tutorial

Circle Sweets are a final circle bonus for NSD 2013.  These are easy and fun.

I was inspired to make circle candy after seeing something similar in the Creative Memories Spring/Summer 2013 catalog.  Check out the project center to see what they did.

Circle Squares Geometric Borders: NSD 2013 Tutorial

One more thing to make with circles... of course there are many many many more things, but this is the last of the circle designs I taught at my NSD 2013 event.  Did you miss the other lessons?

Simplify Circle Lesson Links:

1. Circle Stripes
2. Reverse Circles
3. Circle Fans

Geometric Circle Squares were inspired by a design in the Creative Memories catalog.  Check out the page design on the bottom right corner of the Spring/Summer 2013 catalog on page 104.  The page was cool, but I wanted to make borders for my lesson - or traditional decorative elements.  So, I devised the geometric borders.  If you want to see directions for the page shown in the catalog, use this link to the cM Project Center.

Let's get started:

So now are you inspired to play around with your Seasons Paper Pack and some circles?  I hope so.  Feel free to use and share my lessons and ideas.  But always remember to credit those who inspire your ideas.  If you do use these lessons directly, please link back to this blog post.  THANKS!

Next up - you guessed it!!!  Simplify Squares.  Several photo tutorials for making cool things with a few simple squares.  Stay tuned.

Circle Fans: NSD 2013 Tutorial

Here we are at Simplify Circles Lesson #3.  Did you miss lesson #1 or lesson #2?  Click here to learn about Circle Stripes and here to learn about Reverse Circle Borders.

Circle Fans couldn't be easier!

First, know where the inspiration for this one came from?  Well, right out of the product catalog - it's full of good ideas.  Page 104 in our Spring/Summer 2013 full catalog.  AND if it's in the catalog, you can usually find instructions for making it on the Creative Memories Project Center.  Their version of circle fans can be found right here!  It's not cheating...copying is an excellent way of being productive.  I'm always honored when people copy what I do.

Let's get started with Circle Fans:

Here is a photo of a portion of my display board from NSD.  It shows the sample circle projects I've featured thus far on my blog.

Some variations on Circle Fans:

1.  Use a different sized circle.  The custom cutting system can cut a huge variety of circle sizes - try them all in a circle fan.

2.  Vary the paper to match your theme.  At my event, one attendee (Beth-woo hoo), made her circle fans from alternating black and red cardstock - then she put a Mickey Mouse head sticker right in the middle.  That worked great with her Disney page and earned her a ticket in the grand prize drawing at our event.

What else can you do with a circle fan?

Stay tuned for Circle Squares/Geometric Borders - the next circle lesson, coming soon!

Reverse Circle Borders: NSD 2013 Tutorial

This is lesson #2 featuring Simplify Circles from my National Scrapbook Day 2013 event.  You can check out Lesson #1, Circle Stripes by clicking this link.

Lesson #2 features Creative Memories NEW Shapemaker tool and its circle cartridge.

Shape Maker System

The inspiration for this design came from reverse applique which is a quilting technique.  I am LONG overdue to continue working on an applique quilt I started several years ago.  You can find some posts about that quilt on my Fly The Coop Crafts blog by clicking here.

The Reverse Circle Border uses the NSD Seasons paper pack from Creative Memories and the summer title stickers in addition to the black dual tip pen.

Let's get started:

Use this technique with other shapes (stay tuned for a peek at a reverse puzzle border made with the Sporty paper)!  Next up... Circle Fans.  Stay posted for another NSD photo tutorial.

Circle Stripes: NSD 2013 Tutorial

Creative Memories is celebrating National Scrapbook Days from May 1st to May 15th.  This past weekend, I opened my house to a lovely group of ladies and we celebrated the event by creating digital and traditional album pages to share with our families and re-live our memories.

I taught some lessons and design techniques at the event and I am sharing them here.  The inspiration for the lessons comes directly from Creative Memories.  cM is in the process of simplifying its product line and stream-lining its business module.  With that for inspiration, I decided to focus on simple shapes, basic tools and easy, duplicatable designs that can be made time and time again with basic "ingredients."

The first lesson features circles.  The first circle design is Striped Circles - let's get started!

Each photo details the steps involved in creating this page embellishment.  Follow along:

Another option would be to make some smaller striped circles and line them up down the side of a page.  Vary the papers and embellishments for a new look every time!

Stay tuned for additional lessons, tutorials and design ideas from NSD 2013!
